I've been working on the Fawn Bleat tutorial the last couple of days.  This is the call that I turned for it.  I hope to have it finished tomorrow night,

Al, that is just absolutely beautiful. What kind of wood is it? Looking forward to the tutorial. All your tutorials are top notch and I'm sure this one is going to be just more of the same kind of great stuff as the others.

Glad you like the call.  I am a fan of the tradtionaly styled calls, not a lot of frills just clean smooth lines.

The wood is stabilized maple burl dyed brown.  Really narly wood.  When I started with it, it had more voids and pits in it than the surface of the moon.

The finish is a CA finsih.  I have been playing with the CA finsish for about a year now, and have tried several different ways of putting it on.  I have modifed the way most do it to my own needs and find it a fast and durable finish that does not require any more work than any other finish.  I will be working up a tutorial on it soon.  I can say however, that it probably will not work with calls that are "busy" or have a lot of detail turned into them in the way of accents and coves and other embeliishments, but then again, I have not tried it on calls like that since I rarely turn them anyway.

Yes, I use the same finish on my Stabilized woods as I do non stabilized woods.

Al,

That is a good looking call.  I like the style and the woods are an excellent compliment to each other. I will be looking for the tutorial when you get it finished.
