Adjusting tone channel length

How do you experienced guys adjust tone channel length after cutting the sound board profile?

I’ve tried using my drill bit in my hand drill but because it’s open the bit just wants to dance around and wallow the hole out, not cut it any deeper. And yes I know I need to be using a drill press but I don’t have one yet, that’s definitely my next tool purchase, once I an afford it....

Aaron, for prototypes, I've adjusted the length of a tonechannel with a carbide cutter on a Dremel tool. Personally, I'd never do it on a call for sale.
There's a duck call in that block of wood. I just have to find it!

You can also adjust the length with a small gouge that matches the tone channel diameter. It needs to be sharp!

Reelfoot, the original duck call. What's on your lanyard?
