Set of Axis Calls
« on: February 09, 2009, 05:04:04 PM »
Had a little time today to do a special order for a Texas oil man and rancher.  He specified the axis antler and that he wanted these to be real hunting calls.  I am sure he will be satisfied with these, they are not your run of the mill JC reed calls.  Each has a custom closed reed toneboard.  They play the tunes from jackrabbit to cottontail onto blue jays to barking fox.  My wife nicknamed the set the "Mega Buck" set, but then these oilmen had a real good run on income last year.

Great looking set.  I hope you get a windfall profit out of them   :stuart:

Axis is one of my favorite antlers to make calls from.  I sure hope the oilman likes those.  They look like they are all business!

You won't get money rich in this hobby.  The richness is in the culture, the craft, the friends you meet along the way, and being able to call in a wary game animal with a call that you made with your own hands.

Thanks for the comments.

Al, it was more than a windfall profit.  He furnished the antler and a whole bunch more antler and paid a premium for the calls.  It was almost sinful to take the money after looking at the pile of antler he gave me.  but I got over it in a hurry when I saw the green stuff unfolding.

Brian these have my 1/2" J frame toneboard in them.  The sounds are like those that come from a modified duck call tone board.  Only problem is when you stick them in the call body there is no turning back.
