A couple calls I just finished. Spalted Maple and figured maple. Minus the reeds of course.

    very nice calls, love figured maple, but be extra careful with any spalted wood, I spent many days in the hospital from it, its no joke for sure. take care............ken

Just curious if you don't mind me asking. What happened with spalted wood that put you in the hospital?

Andy-- Basically speaking you are working with mold in spalted wood & should take precautions. Kiln dried is less dangerous than air dried but it still has that a level of hazard.
