Garage sale wood Closed Reed.
« on: March 14, 2015, 08:13:34 PM »
I got two 1.25" x 6" pieces of this mystery wood at a garage sale today. I thought it was cocobolo but I do not think it is anymore. Turned pretty good and looks really cool. Voiced in jackrabbit.

Nice job again.  Have you figured out what the wood is yet?

I'm not really sure. Seemed like it had some oil in it  thought it was coco by the end grain but it does not look like it anymore. Plus the lighter areas are still light, they haven't oxidized....

Okay I want to get to the bottom of this.   We need more info.  How big was the chunk or wood? What else was being sold at the sale?  Was the fella a wood worker?  Did you ask him any questions about it?  Happen to know what his occupation is?

It was in with a bunch of drum sticks. It was just a bunch of junk in the garage. it was finished, no wood working tools in the house. 1.25 x 6" Got two of them. I think they are some sort of noise maker. They only wanted 50 cents a piece. They appear to have been turned on a lathe. I have no idea what they are. :D

Hahaha. I really have no idea. I am beginning to think it is some sort of noise maker. When I smack them together it makes a cool sound. lol
