I have about 20 owl calls from various makers. They all sound like a owl. But if I'm in the woods I like the reeded style owl because of the loudness. If it was early morning in the dark and you don't know where the birds are roosted then the non-reeded version would be my choice. I stopped years ago using owl calls in the dark of the morning. When I hunt I like to let the woods wake up on their own. I do like to use the reeded call in the evenings to locate roosted birds. The crows will get going sometimes in the daytime by cranking on the reeded owl call. The one I make is the reeded style. I like the loudness of the reeded call but everyone likes to do their own thing and each type of call I believe has it's place and time. Probably why I carry a gunny sack of calls with me!
