Cow Horn Howler by Dave Paul "Huntncarve"
« on: January 19, 2015, 11:30:00 AM »
About a week ago I asked Dave (huntncarve) if he could make me a howler, and that I would pay whatever he wanted for it. He responded saying he would see if he had anything laying around and that he didn't want any money. Later on he sent another message with a picture of a cow horn howler, he was sending it to me! FOR FREE! I said I would pay him but he refused, he said it was a gift. I opened up the box yesterday and all I can say is WOW. This call is beautiful, I cannot believe someone could send a call like this without payment. He also sent some wood and a couple airbrushed paintings. I just wanted to publicly thank Dave, you are a very generous man!

My picture is not very good, but you can still see how beautiful this call is. In the background is one of the paintings he sent, the other one is already hanging on my wall!

THANK YOU Dave!
David

Yeah, Dave is a class act for sure.   He's also a true artist.   Keep that call close to you.   I have two of his early carved coyote calls and they are treasured parts of my collection.

Yes he is Al. This call is staying with me until I die. I am not the greatest on it yet but I am learning, I am trying to get my dad to take me yote hunting today but I don't think he's going too.....

I've admired the HuntnCarve calls for years. There isn't a nicer, more humble gentleman in the world than Dave. I've learned so much from him and he always gets my utmost respect.

You won't get money rich in this hobby.  The richness is in the culture, the craft, the friends you meet along the way, and being able to call in a wary game animal with a call that you made with your own hands.

Aw shucks guys!  My mom said if I hang around good people, some of it's bound to rub off.

David, it was kind of you to make this post, but it was totally unnecessary.  All of us are fortunate to have a site like this.  And we all should be thanking Al for what he has done here.  The openness, and sharing of techniques and ideas...  Wasn't to long ago when call making was a secretive closed book.  Folks just did not share.  Al helped break down those barriers.   It's a grand time for call makers.  I'm glad to be here.  :2up:

Meantime, I'm glad you like the call and other trinkets.  Now it's up to you to put it to use and make some memories.

Wow! Nice call, and the airbrushed painting is flat out awesome!

I have to agree, this place has rubbed off on me as well. The family atmosphere and the amount of information on this site make it quite possibly the best resouce anywhere for callmakers of all sorts.

 Good on ya Dave!
