Need a little predator call help...
« on: October 09, 2014, 11:43:33 AM »
Just got some open-reed toneboards from Al, and I'm about to try making my first open-reed predator call this weekend.  I thought there was a tutorial on making the barrel but if there is, I can't find it.  I've scoured through most of the pics/posts on the predator call page and have a good idea of what to do and how to do it.  Here's my question: How far into the bell of the barrel do I open it up?  Am I basically hollowing out the entire call?  Or, just tapering it into the 1/2" bore an inch or so into the call?

I just drill a 1/2" hole through it. No taper or anything. They sound great like that, I bet they would sound better if I was better at using them......  I'm also new to this so any answers you get will help me out too.  :gitrdone:

James your gonna have to play with the dimensions till it sounds how you want.   Some guys taper, some don't.
In life or anything worth partaking, if you have stopped trying to improve you have quit.
