Tubing or not ?
« on: March 03, 2014, 01:26:19 PM »
I'm going to make some cow calls for some friends  using Al's gut kits. I see pros and cons on the use of tubing. So is it necessary or not?  I have shrink tubing how does that hold up? How many of you use tubing?

I like the tubing...it tames the call down some.

I to like tubing on the call. I like to use the rubber surgical tubing instead of the shrink stuff. I think the tubing makes it sound better.

Tubing for me as well.  I also use the surgical tubing on my calls.  In my opinion it definitely makes a difference in the quality of the sound of the call.  With the tubing on you can control the air flow much better so that you can adjust the volume by the amount of air that you blow into the call across the reed.  I also use Al's guts.  It also helps to keep the dirt/dust out of the call especially if you are hunting out west where it can get pretty dry and dusty.

Problem with surgical tubing, is unless you specifically get non-latex, it IS going to be latex, and more and more folks are having latex allergies every day that passes.  I don't know the answer to this.  Just throwing it out there to keep yourself out of trouble giving a latex allergy person a chunk of latex and telling them to put it in their mouth.
