squirrel call chatter ?
« on: September 30, 2013, 08:58:01 PM »
I have a question that I found an answer for yet. I have made a few squirrel calls and they seem to work great for barking but when you grab the barrel and shake the call for a chatter............. nothing ! It acts as though the bellows are either too stiff  or not long enough. I am using the small bellows that I get from the THO store.

Any ideas what I may be doing wrong ?

Thanks,

Scottjge

The small bellows may not be long enough for what you are trying to do.   Send me an e mail or PM with your address and I will mail you out a large bellows to try.   I think you will have better luck with that.

I agree with Al.  You're only going to get the chatter out of the larger bellow.  My opinion, the small bellow makes for the best barks by far though.

The call that I make with the small bellows works and sounds awesome. I made it for my brother so he could play around in the evenings while sitting on his deck. He loves and can he ever get the rats stirring.

thanks for the advise,

What if you added some weight to end of the bellow.  Just thinking out loud.  I think the large bellow is the way to go for chatter, but was just wondering if the weight would make the small bellow wiggle back and forth.

I just don't think there's enough material/air space there to work with much.

You can also offer a squirrel call to a customer without a bellow, if they understand how to make the sounds with their own air.  And at that point the call can easily also double as a predator call also.

All good points and idea's. When I get a minute I am going to try the big bellows but putting some weight in the end of the bellows is an interesting idea that sparks my interest.

Thanks for all the idea's and advise,
