This was another one of my other projects this week. I had talked to a buddy of mine that is now in a Veterans Administration nursing home and he wanted a couple of my calls that I used to make. I know they will be confiscated by the nursing staff, but I figured what the heck. He deserves a few hours of driving the place crazy.
These are made out of maple with walnut stoppers. The maple is drilled 3 times to leave an air chamber before the reed. Kind of like the old Glodo duck call barrels. When I dreamed this theory up back in the 70s I had never heard of Glodo. All I know is that they make the reeds sound raspier and the call is louder. My friend called them Marvin's Madness, and that was pretty well what we called them. I didn't make many of these, a lot more work to make. On these I did use O-rings on the stopper, other wise they are as I made them years ago. These were sanded to 600 grit and are finished with a home brewed oil/poly finish.
