I had been ask in the past how I made an 8 sided call that I had posted, so here is the how I did it, although there are other ways I am sure. This is the measurements I used and can be varied for whatever you want.
I also will post at a later date how to cut the 8 sided stopper. I did not take pictures and will have to get that done in the meantime, may be a little while but will do it.

- Mount and drill blank 3 1/2" - 5/8 drill
- This is the jig. A piece of 5/8 all thread 2 flat washers and 2 spacers plus the ends. Across the points on the octagon is 3" across the round disc is 2 1/3".
- Mount the blank in the jig, be sure ends are square to the blank before tightening up. Tighten tight enough that you are sure it will not move while cutting it out.
- Set fence on bandsaw for the dia. of the call you want to cut, the taper is there with the jig.
- When cutting one flat will be against the fence and one will be on the table and the disc will always be against the fence, be sure to hold that position and cut all 8 sides.
- This is what it looks like off the jig.
- Mount back to lathe and turn what you want block sand and finish.
- The finished call
