I need serious Help NEW UPDATED!
« on: March 15, 2012, 05:32:24 PM »
I have no idea what i am doing wrong but about 90 percent of calls made don't sounds right.  I am not getting the 2 tone break in my yelps.

My distance from toneboard to playing surface is between 1/8 and 3/16.
Does the pedestal over all diameter matter?  Does the thickness of the pedestal matter?
My Pedestal is about 1/4 tall.
My playing surface ledge is between 1/8 and 3/16

I can make 2 calls that i think look and feel identical with dimensions and i cannot get the sound.  I am getting really discouraged and do not know what to do at all.

Any advice would help.

Jason

I know what you mean, I gotta get some time planned to get mine over to KC to look at it. Its just not "right". Sounds like a turkey but it doesn't sound like what i think it should. You could always mail them to him and have him take a look!  :devil2:

your dimensions sound exactly like mine (i don't measure when i make them but its really really close on all of them)

I have a birdseye and a marado call i made and my buddy who is a pro caller said they were great sounding, unfortunately the other 12 that are almost identical inside sound dead.  Great clucks and purrs, but the yelp is flat.  no rollover at all.  I know there is something that will change it but i cannot for the life of figure it out.

Post some pics lets see em it might be something as simple as the space between your surface and the edge of the pot. But yes diameter of your pedistal plays in. How are you holding your surface in place?  Sometimes to much presure is not good i just use a decent size can of soup.  Also how deep is the inside of your pot?  Theres alot of factors that could be playing the part all together along with your SB positioning. If the sb is touching any part of the inside of the pot its dead.

The pedestal's overall width does matter.  I would not exceed 1-1/4" overall diameter.  Walls about 3/16" thick, maybe a tad bit more.  Slate surface ledge not to exceed 1/8" worth of bearing/contact surface.

If you want, mail me one.  I'll pick it apart for you.   :devil2:  Franchifowler....Dude you work 1/4 mile from my house.  Just call and stop by!

Shorten the distance of the SB be consistent with that. 1/16 to 3/32 and no more!
Pedestal less than a 1" in dia and don't worry about the thickness of the side walls or pot bottom unless your talking 3"  :hysterical:

Pedistal is to big imo. I use to do the same thing.  Try 7/8 the thiner you go the more rasp your pedistal might be the route of your problem i think. Your sound board height should be half the thickness in distance from the pot surface.  Thats my thoughts at a glance of your measurements

The inside depth varies since i  taper form from the outside toward the middle.
You are saying the distance from the top of the soundboard to the bottom of the playing surface should be 1/16?
You are also saying the overall width of my pedestal should be 7/8.  My middle sound hole is already 3/4, that doesn't leave much for the pedestal thickness

Guess I'll say it again.

How deep is your pot from the ledge that your surface sets on to the bottom of the call at the side of the call?
