John, I like both the red and the blue. How well do you think the color will hold up? What did you do for a finish over the "sharpie" color treatment?

Braz it dried very fast and took carnauba wax very well. I checked the first application and nothing came off the call. It went on nice. I put on quite a few layers inside and out.

Nice looking calls.  If you really want to get into dyeing wood check out the aniline dyes or the transtint dyes.  They are made for wood and will allow the grain to show through better.  Not sure on the cost versus the sharpies but my guess it would be less.  You can also dip the calls in these dyes and use combinations of colors for different color effects.  These dyes are the same as what some of the wood stabilizers use to color their wood.

Thanks Marvin. I'll check it out. I only did these 2 because I had a couple sharpies in the shop and no real need for them so I thought I'd use them up. What I thought was strange was the blue ink was fine and went on mooth. The red was real sticky. I would of thought that ink was ink but boy that red was like glue. Maybe it was just old.
