Maple Howler... Added Red and Blue one.

I turned this howler tonight from a piece of maple Al sent me. I put butchers wax on it, a good heavy coat and let it set while I made the toneboard. Then buffed it good and finished it with carnauba wax.
It's got a good sound and pretty loud for a small call. It's only about 3 1/2 inches long.

I sleep at night Braz, just not as much as you guys.  ;D ;D  It all started when I was a kid and got yelled at for sleeping 14 hours. Now I can't sleep much more than 4.  ;D ;D  So you see it's my parents fault. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I was the recipient of some Birds Eye Maple. A guy who sells gun stocks had a piece that had started to crack and was useless for a gun stock. He said he would ship it to me for free if I would make him a couple of howlers from it. I agreed. I got this piece that was 9"x3"x48" in the mail one day. Yep, had some tiny crack in it, but wow, there was a lot of stuff left there. I cut off a big chunk and made him some calls, made some for sale, and still have a huge piece left. I need to get into that and cut some more up. I keep forgetting about it, since it is not sitting on my wood storage shelf.

I think it's nice looking wood. I think I'm going to put this call back on the lathe. I'm not happy with the shape.

Oh yeah I made a blue call today out of maple. It was hard to take a picture of it.

I used a blue sharpie marker. I used it while spinning the call on the lathe but it got the tip to hot so I had to take the inside out of the sharpie and use it that way. Next time I'll put my latex gloves on. I have a blue thumbnail.  ;D
