Hodge Podge of calls..
« on: March 03, 2011, 04:12:11 PM »

Here's a look at a few calls I've put together the past month or so.  Range from turned cow horn howlers, to horn tips, to solid maple "Faux" cow horns. - Entire howler is Maple, including the toneboard (bottom photo).  Sorry to bore you.  Thanks for looking!

Great set of calls Dave! What kind of mouthpieces are those big white ones?

  That's a LOT of outstanding work!  Those white mouthpieces caught my eye too!  I'm interested to hear about them.  Never seen anything like that.

I take a ELK Power Howler, remove the mouth piece and modify.  Then I carefully attach them to a modified horn.  Not an easy task.  I learned quite a bit working with these. It's a real balancing act. A step in the wrong direction, and the horn sounds awful!  The mouth pieces alone cannot be bought unfortunately. -But then everyone would be doing them. ::)
I've seen some good ones.  But I've also seen some poorly made one.  The concept is akin to a turkey tube call using a latex band.

:up1:  Looks like a comfortable calling system.  I'm sure they sound great in your setups if you're using them.

You won't get money rich in this hobby.  The richness is in the culture, the craft, the friends you meet along the way, and being able to call in a wary game animal with a call that you made with your own hands.
