A couple deer grunts
« on: August 01, 2008, 09:32:58 PM »
I have an order for 25 more just like the top picture. I started the copper ring this week after reading Al's tutorial about making the rings. They allow me to make the transition from barrel to barrel and retain as much strength as possible. The copper and cedar go together very nice. The bottom call is just a slight variation of the top. But I have an order for 25 of those pending as well. THANKS AL!!!

Nice looking calls Brian and I always like the look of cedar.  If I ever got an order for 25 calls I'd have a heart attack.  ;D

If this heat keeps up, I might have another one. Had 113 in the back yard this afternoon right before a thunderstorm moved over us. :o No rain but it broke the heat a bit.

113. I can't even imagine that kind of heat. It hit 80 here with 98% humidity and I was dying.

OH, the humidity was near 90% too. I just stayed flat on my butt with the fan on me. I'll be glad when I can get the A/C fixed.... ::)

I like both styles. I also worry about the strength of the call at the tennon joint. But I have craked the joint putting in the reed more than I have the barrel. Looking for gutserts with a sub .500 diamater. I can find .5, but all the kits seem to be for a 31/64 hole.

Were you able to find the copper locally ?

Sure was, I got some copper tubing from Lowes. 1" diameter ID. Of course you can go larger but I wouldn't suggest smaller. UNLESS of course you get the right size fr your insert. You could even get some 1/2 in Id Tubing, and drill to fit on your wood parts. The of course you could use your guts you have now. Remember, copper will tarnish and change color. So if you do that, you might wnt to consider the color of your wood to match. Once I get these 2 orders don, I plan to experiment some more. I'll keep you updated  :D
