Poor thing's going to sit on a shelf
« on: February 20, 2011, 01:42:37 AM »
A gentleman ordered this duck call, as well as a goose call and three whistles from me.  He collects calls and saw mine online when a friend showed them to him, and told my friend to tell me to make them, didn't care what the price is, and just wanted them to be pretty.  He actually told me to not bother tuning them or even putting reeds in them.  Uhhhh, no.  Not sending a call out that doesn't sound good, even if it will live life on a shelf.  Somebody might want to hear it and I'm not into making art here.  If he wants to buy a duck call and use it for display that's fine, but it is going to be a duck call first and foremost.

So I made it tonight after the kids went to bed.  It is cocobolo with one of Ron's bands.  CA finish...Lots and lots of it.  Darn thing sounds really good.

The new 8' flourescent lights I installed in the shop are going to keep me honest on my CA finishes.  If there's a screw-up it is going to definitely show up in the pictures I take of my calls.  I need to get a photo tent one of these days.

Somebody might want to hear it and I'm not into making art here.

With the calls I seen you make, that is a comment is so untrue. Even if your not trying to make art, You are my friend.

Great Job as always

  Darn thing sounds really good.

That darn thing looks really good too.   I hear ya on the fluorescent lights, that what I have in my basement, but you know if it looks good under those it will look good in any light tent box.  Gotta love the "shine line".

Great job.

KC, you have inspired me to get a coco call made up of my own. I havent made a duck call in awhile now so I had to get to work today. I will post a pic when I get it tuned up.

If ducks would respond to a call based on looks, then this one would have no problem bringing them in, even from on top of a shelf.
