Not sure why, but I decided to make an acrylic goose call last night, as opposed to continue practicing with cheap woods like maple. Seems like a pretty high risk for wasting a good piece of acrylic for a guy that has had limited success with goose calls thus far. Guess I'm dumb that way.
It actually worked out well. I put Shell Creek guts in it and it sounds pretty good to me.
The barrel is 2-7/8" including the band. It is bored 7/8" to the tip of the guts, then 3/4", then 5/8" at the mouth. The band is stainless steel that I polished, JB Welded in place. The insert is about 2-1/8" not counting the gutsert (which I shined up a little). It is bored 5/8" straight through and is flared out just past 3/4" wide at the exhaust end.
Not the best pics, note the drool on the toneboard.
Suggestions, critiques appreciated.
Now that I've made one from acrylic I have two nice pieces of Arizona desert ironwood that are itching to become a goose call. Going to fight that urge for a while, just to be sure I know what I am doing.
