Satin has addiitives to keep it from being glossy, I think the additives also shortens the life of the can once it is opened.  Glossy only for me.

Shane give the gloss a try.  Glossy's the way to go with a dipped finish!  Be sure to thin it down to about 50/50 with mineral spirits, and stir...Don't shake!

The gloss will stick to the satin just fine but I'd sand the satin off and then dip in gloss if you want a clear glossy finish.

since we are on the subject, i'll give you another little trick that has worked for me.  get you a bunch of the small mason jars that people use for jellies and jams.  i usually mix up a few different mixtures in the jar and label the top with a sharpie.  i do a few 50/50 mixtures, a few 70/30 mixtures and even one or two straight spar.  you have to take displacement into account when dipping calls into these jars, so don't fill them to the top.  by using these smaller jars, you will eliminate that 'jelly' effect that happens to spar if it sits too long.  these jars are air tight and there will not be a lot of air in them.  when the amount of liquid in the jars start getting lower, add the right amount of spar and MS and you should be good to go.
