Black Bandits down!!
« on: December 31, 2010, 04:44:19 PM »

Went out this AM before the rain. Sure glad I did too. 10 of these bandits didn't come out of the fire to see the new year.  :2up:  The one crow looks a little more worse for wear in that pic. He was honored with a close up shot. Literally & photographically.

Here's the one that came in with beak blazin & giving my decoys hell. That last thing I heard was  :censored: !!

This bandit spun in. There was,,  no survivor.   :gunsmilie:

Top view of said victim.  :punk:

This is my story & I'm sticking to it!!
RIP Russ,Blaine,& Darrell!!

That was a fun day, I'll bet!  Good pics.
Deer hunters are everywhere we go.
We did manage three yesterday at our first stop, but after that we couldn't find a place that didn't have a deer hunter's truck parked nearby.  Since it was pretty windy, anyway, we gave up and came home.  That brought our total up to 147 since November.

I don't really have to dodge the deer hunters after the rut around here. Most of them are done a week after Thanksgiving when deer gun season ends. Then the extra 2 day weekend & the 4 days of muzzle loader this month but for the most part the deer hunters are done. Still 147 is a good number. That would be a great number for me. I'm only up to 48 I believe. Just getting out is the fun part tho for me.

Woodwzrd:

If you want to get into crow hunting, you should consider building your own caller.

I'll have to post some pics of my caller, sometime.  It is a cassette player and a motorcycle battery mounted in a gutted tackle box, painted camo.  There is room inside for the external horn speaker to be carried. It is super loud.  Motorcycle batteries have lots of power, last 5 years or more, and can be charged with any 12 volt charger.

I once built one in a 5 gallon bucket.  I had lots of room in there for extra shells, etc.  The top was a padded seat with camo upholstery.

I have thought about going to a CD player or an mp3 player and amplifier to update the system, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it, I always say.

At the risk of sounding stupid, you guys don't eat crow, do ya? I'm not sure if it's legal to hunt them here, so I've never even though about it.

I think Michigan has a season. They are Federal seasons tho so one should be aware of that. You'll need a HIP number on your general liscense.

Some folks do eat crow. I don't. Well not the feathered kind anyhow.   www.crowbusters.com does have recipes tho.

Crows are not classed as a Game Bird so no worry about the wanton waste same as coyote and fox and starlings and english sparrows. I have ate the crows back when I was in school and didn't have much to eat. Not bad either. I like them marinaded and then smoked the best.

I'm not worried about their reply. I'm still gonna use em for attic insulation in the local groundhog holes so they don't freeze this winter.
