CA/BLO finish?
« on: July 18, 2008, 07:48:07 PM »
Just a weird question about using them for finishes. I started using the finish on pens, but have come to prefer it on turkey strikers also (not quite as shiny a finish though). I was just doing up a couple strikers and wondered.... after running the CA across the striker the CA gets mighty hot on the paper towel (smoking). Is fire a danger with using the CA? I only use metal trash cans to trim my used CA/BLO pieces into, and don't let trash build up much. Just wondering if you can get a fire with the CA?

BLO is subject to spontaneous combustion, so my guess is that with the CA it will.  Never saw anything about the CA/BLO but I usually skip over anything with CA, not my thing, and see no reason to keep with that process.  If you do a Google on "spontaneous combustion boiled linseed oil"  You will see enough to take extra precautions.
