I took a shot at it....
« on: July 17, 2008, 09:38:38 PM »
I have been studying up on deer grunts so I could build a few. I owe two different people a call and didn't want to dissapoint either of them. Been sort of putting it off untill I thought I was ready. One gave me some Hickory from a ranch he just purchased, the other gave me a truckload of Cocobolo for about 25% of what he should have charged me. The hickory call is still drying, but this one is ready for some guts. I'm also going to turn a matching call and set it up as a predator call like Ninthining and some others do with a short .5 Lousianna style reed ( I hope).  I don't know if he will like it or not, but I'm pretty happy considering I don't know what the heck I'm doing. Thanks to EVERYONE who has posted pics and tutorials recently. I am your humble student.

That is my kind of deer grunt call.  Hard to look at the plastic tube after seeing some of these old style versions.  If your sales goes like ours you will find that you only make a plastic tube version when requested.  In the last 3 years I doubt if we have done 3 of the plastic versions.

Nice looking call. For a guy who said he doesn't know what he's doing you sure turned out a nice call.
It's gonna be kinda hard for you to improve on that with your next one.

That is a super nice looking grunt - I am working on my first grunt now, and it won't have the plastic either.  The look is fantastic.

I don't know how I missed this call when first posted. Wow. What a beauty. My poor little ol grunts look like dung now compared to that beauty. The lines on that call are just wonderful. Anyone would be thrilled with it.

YUP. I'm going to have to go back to school  now. That there call is just too purty. Now, I can't wait till the boy starts making his own sound boards and reeds for them. If he does that, look out guys. ;D

Ninthinning and Dogcatcher have agreed to mentor me in the art of predator call making. (I don't think they have a clue how hard that's going to be. :P
I wouldn't worry!!!! except for those two, I may make them wish they had never seen one.!
