Glodo duck call
« on: October 21, 2010, 10:07:08 PM »
I saw a post on CCO about the Victor Glodo style call.  I'm assuming that the post was referring to a goose call, but I was wondering if any one has ever used this technique with a duck call?  The description was talking about back boring the barrel and back boring the insert.  I guess you would have to use a hollowing tool for the barrel, right?  Just trying to get some info before I jump in.

Thanks,
Tobin

I step drill on the lathe and then tenon fit another piece to it to make the barrel.  It leaves me a 3/4" hole in part of the barrel, instead of the 5/8" straight through hole.

The last celtic knot duck call I posted was done exactly as Marvin described. The guy that got the call called me a couple days ago and man can he make it sound good!! He liked it so good he has already mentioned getting a duck and goose set for a friend of his. Gotta love repeat customers.

Carlson uses a glodo style barrel.  Ive seen it on various calls, duck and goose predominantly.  For Goose calls, its common place due to design requirements for the "normal" setups - for both keg fit and gut clearance.
Duck calls its more of an option than general theory of design.  Some use it - some dont.

So you step drill up to 3/4, and then fit a 3/4" tennon and drill out to 5/8" at the bottom of the barrell?  Do you have any pics?

Mouth end of the barrell is 5/8 the insert end is 3/4. The tenon on the insert is 3/4. I use o ring set up to hold everything together.
Here is a shot of the duck call I sent out a week or so ago. Ignore the reed set up.
