Parker is right white vinegar and steel wool then run a little flame agross to pop the grain.Parker I cut my own tenon then wrap thread and ca in a oring groove at the end of the tenon as for the guts I use Wades sr4s was going to take a picture of this but my camera batteries went dead just as I was getting ready to take the picture.

Do you do the vinegar/steel wool trick with the blank of after said call is turned?

Stump after the call is done. It is alot like stain but to get the grain to pop you have to run a flame across the call and you can see it darken and it will raise the grain some when you sand it down it might have some spots that need to be recoated. Have not tried this with a ca finish but with every coat of spar it make the grain pop even more.

You can burnish it in as well, no flame required!

If when thats done, and you want some of the grain a tad dark, soot it with a lighter then burnish again. (hold a lighter under the call and spin by ahnd allowing the "soot" to coat the call)
I am not a call maker, but I play one on the internet
