What combo of wood native to us makes the best raspy calls?

Jeff,

My favorite box call combo for raspiness is a purpleheart lid and a mahogany box.  This is the best combo I've came across, and I feel like I've ran a LOT of boxes.

I have always been fond of a walnut and pecan or red oak. butternut and sassafrass.

One of my best combos is Alaskan yellow cedar for the box and either cherry, walnut or purpleheart for the paddle. Every one that I have made thus far has not required the first bit of chalk and purrs like a kitten

misfire is right, I had forgotten about that mix. I have some yellow cedar boxes with a walnut lid that are like he said, very sweet.
