I just HAD to try it. Y'all been showing so many pretty calls like this I HAD to try. Anyways, got it done and grunting and the first person who saw it last night up and bought it. Gotta like that... :D

Mouth piece is Cherry, Stpper is Black Walnut and the horn is Cedar.
Thanks for looking,

Thanks folks. Unfortunatly, I only had the presence of mind to take the one picture real quik before the buyer headed out the door with it. The call is a total of 13 1/2 inches long. 6 inches on both ends and 1 1/2 inches for the center section. I like the shape and feel of it alot. The center section is just a hair over 3/4 inch in diameter and the bell or horn end is nearly 2 inches in diameter. The cherry barrel on the far end is between 7/8 to 1 inch in diameter. I was really shocked at how nice it sounded. There is just no substtute for wood.

WOW!
I just fininshed my first grunt call. Think I'll toss it and start over!

That is amazing. How do you turn the inside of the bell, like making a bowl ?
Using different woods is so cool. I have a hickory call to make, but the wood is so bland. Your idea to mix it up may be the solution.

Give it a few days Rich and you'l should have some different woods to play with. The bell I made using a step jaw chuck and a chisel I made just for cutting the inside. When I get a minute between work and thr grandbaby, I'll take a picture and post it. One word of CAUTION though...
Be VERY, VERY CAREFUL while sanding the inside of the bell when you make one. It takes very little to get caught up and hurt. I use a piece of rolled up sandpaper to do it. It can be real tempting to stick your finger tip in and help it along but DO NOT DO IT. One slip and that finger isn't just hurt, it gone. I would hate to think of someone getting hurt trying something like that. PLEASE be careful.

You are so right about how dangerous it is Brian. What I do is use a small dowel with a slit cut in it. I then put a piece of sandpaper in the slit and roll it up. The same as the roll of sandpaper you use, but a longer handle. And it keeps my fingers away from the inside.

I figured I would mention it because I actually caught MYSELF doing it. I would be sanding the outside and out towards the end then next hing I knew I was starting on into the horn.

Thanks for posting up the pictures and the help!
I'm going to build that Hickory call this weekend.
Built one already, but I want to try the bell thing with the wood I have left.

Go for it! That little chisel I made is from a flat screwdriver. It's ground to be able to use the point, the side and the angled front when doing the bells. That way you can take small bites . Have fun and be careful please.

The sound was awsome. NOTHING will ever replace wood in that department. Now, If I could just figure out a way to make it collapsable like the plastic ones, I'd be a happy camper. I'm working on it but it ain't going to be easy. I'll keep you all informed if I get it worked out...
