lignum vitae
« on: August 28, 2010, 11:50:08 PM »
Turned this one this evening.  Came across a nice piece of genuine lignum vitae (not the Argentinian stuff) at Woodcraft today, so I grabbed it.  Turning this stuff is a dream.  More like machining than turning.  Not quite as potent smelling as the Argentinian lignum vitae, and less greenish colored.  The band is pinned with three pins.  No finish on this one, not even wax.  I sanded to 2000 and the thing is so oily it just doesn't need a finish.

I've been turning a duck call a day for nearly two weeks, usually late at night after the kids go to sleep and the wife is in bed.  Jeez, I need to slow down or start selling them because this is getting ridiculous.

A call a day for two weeks?  I'd like to see the picture of the pile your making.
Sure wish I had that kind of stamina but I've been fighting the same three toneboards for four days... soooo close just not quite there.
I like the all acrylic no band call.   The o rings do add a little to it.  Call it the bumble bee and tell your wife you don't like her insulting your calls.   :devil2:
