Started my first Crow Call
« on: July 30, 2010, 10:31:49 PM »
Well what do you guys think? Its not completely finished yet but its a start. The wood was from a peice of Oak I recieved from someone. After I cut it open I thought that it looked very interesting. I Still have lots more sanding and finishing to do though.

That is a very nice piece of wood you got.
Be careful if you are sanding on the drill bit it can and will catch your finger. OUCH!!

Just using the bit to finish. All the sanding is done on the chuck.  :2up:

well that piece broke. I'm thinking that the wood may be a little rotten. Such a shame.

What kind of finish were you using? If friction you may have overheated it & broke it. Or if it was too wet it may have shrank around the drill bit & broke that way. Just a couple thoughts & ideas on my part. But it would be interesting to know why it broke on you. It was a very nice looking piece of wood.

I used a Poly Gel for a base coat to server as a grain filler. I may have to try another one. Did manage to make one from some manzanita though. That one turned out really nice. Ill get a pic up later tonight.
