Birdseye Longbox
« on: March 31, 2010, 10:00:05 PM »

Here is my first try at a longbox. I used a scrap from a gun stock from my brother.. A big thanks to Larry Gresser for sharing the starter points with us..I used a cherry paddle but tried many. I think that is a large part of the call is to find the best paddle for it.
Hope to try my hand at making another soon..
 Thanks for looking, Jeff

Not as good as I would like up at the front I'm not getting as high pitch for a Kee Kee.Has a good rollover. To me its kinda like a larger short box if that makes since..
And also think that I put to much curve into it..But its a first...07 I use a forstner 1/2 with the tip grinded off and a 6 inch slide vise..

Looks like a bit too much radius. Find your center of the call opening. So if you have a 6" opening put a mark at 3" in the center. Now mark the ends of the opening. Assuming the top of the box edge is straight measure about 1/8" down make a mark. Do the same on the other end and make a mark. Now draw your raduis making sure it is no more than 1/8" below the center of your opening. That will give you a workable raduis. You can draw that out on some cardboard and then cut it and use it for your template on all your calls.  No Keekee in the front you took too much wood out.
