At least they sound like a duck..
« on: June 17, 2008, 09:58:47 PM »
I was on a barrel making binge for a while. Decided to make a mess of stoppers to finish them up and the results are pretty disapointing looks wise. I have 5 more barrels to finish but I think I'm going to make each stopper custom for each barrel on those. Here are the ones that looked tolarable with the light Rock Maple stoppers. I do think they sound good however and that is a MAJOR hurdle for me.
L to R, crazy spalted Ash/BLO, spalted Rock Maple, spalted Rock Maple/BLO, KOA, and a new to me wood Osage Orange. I'm going to make a new stopper for some of these, but just wanted to show you guys I actualy do make a duck call ( and toneboard) every once in a while.

Richard,

They all look nice. Try using some of the OO for the toneboards. It's one of my favorite sounding woods, and it machines and finishes very well. Great job!

My biggest fear is that I'll die and my wife will sell my callmaking supplies for what I told her they cost.....

Those are wonderfully done!  I really like the style of your calls, and the wood isn't bad either :)

I would be proud of them if I made them.   Nice stuff!
