I'm assuming you used a JC reed? Which one?

Yup, JC ...believe it was the 002

Its alot more raspy bladed heavy like Parker suggests and should suit him well. Not sure if he will call a bear in, but he might scare the girls he takes out just enough to get them to move abit closer on the log

Ok, I bladed the Pizz out of it :punk:

The guys I hunt with use dogs mainly but during bow season they hunt them like deer from stands etc. Rifle season with the dogs gets crazy

:2up:  That looks like great fun!

I hunted them over bait once in MN, and got charged.  I was hunting with a .357.  If I ever do it again, I will either be in a stand with a bow, or I will have a high power rifle!  My .357 felt VERY small at the moment of truth!

I watched a 380 pounder take 3 solid hits from a 44 this season at less then 20 yards and it walked away. I had my 357 but it never came out of the holster for the rest of the season.

Watched this one take 2 hits from a 44 at point blank range. They followed it for over a mile but it crossed a river and they lost it :helpsmilie:

You can see the gun recoiling in this pic, the bear is on the opposite side of the tree.

I guess I'm missing something. How can you loose a wounded bear when you have dogs?

The river was pretty wide and deep and it went onto posted land after crossing a main road. They contacted the owner later in the day and he sent some boys in there to find it. I do not know if they ever did find it because the people in these pics I was not hunting with but joined in just to try and get some photos

I try to call bear evry year here. I have had good luck, having called in quite a few, as we have a high population here. I also use 002 reed. Lots of JC reeds can be tuned pretty good to call bear though.
It is both scary and a rush to see a bear crashing in into your stand, even if you see em coming from a long ways off!
I usually only call during bowhunting season though. To many hunters around during rifle here.
