Echo goose insert question
« on: January 12, 2010, 09:28:18 AM »
 :huh: I just received my Echo goose inserts and have a few questions;
1.  How long do you recommend for the barrel
2.  These take a 7/8" hole.  Do you make the entire length 7/8" or can you step drill 5/8 to 7/8?  My mandrel is 1/2 to 3/4".  7/8 seems awful large for mouth piece.

Any help would be welcomed.  You guys have been awesome in the past and love this site.  When I finish my all around hunter package for our Whitetails unlimited auction Feb 6, I will post pics.  Duck call looks awesome Deer call 1/2 way done and working the rest today and tomorrow between skinning a yote and mounting a bobcat.  If I have to be caught up to die, I am going to live forever.

thanks,
Mike

Hey, Mike
Try making your barrel around 3 to 3 1/4 in lenght
7/8 to 5/8 all the way works well if you need more pressure try
7/8 to 5/8 all the way then run 3/4 to within 1/4 of the mouth.  Ron

 :up1:  SEE ABOVE POST!   :up1:

7/8 to 3/4 to 5/8 is what I have found to be the best for pressure.

NO WAY can you run a straight bore 7/8".  I've tried it ALL different lengths, so don't waste your time like I did.   :up1:

Some folks do go 7/8 to 3/4, especially for ease of getting the drilling perfectly centered, but it takes a lot more air to run the call.

Let me go find a drilling thread to link up to this for your reading pleasure......

:punk:  Here is that thread.  There is a ton of great information in it.  The information in this thread has taken the quality of my goose calls to another level.

I just reread that entire post, and it is a good one. One problem still exists however. Parker, you never did POST those pictures.  :taz:

  Glad we could help out!  ECHO makes a great easy to run, easy to tune short reed!

Some day, I am going to join the big boys and switch to Shell Creek Guts and REALLY get into some tuning.  This will also allow me to have a 'full wood' call.  Problem is, people keep killing the crap out of geese with my ECHO insert calls, so I'm having trouble coming up with a reason why I should switch!

Believe me, you will be able to make a much better insert on your own. And it will feel much better to make the whole call yourself
