Acrylic tenon project
« on: January 11, 2010, 10:30:10 PM »
Well I have had some problems with my insert tenons splitting. I don't like the gutserts/ metal tenons on the market for various reasons, no offense to anybody that makes them, I just am not a big fan of the way they run in the calls. So i decided to try and make my own. I took a piece of maple, back bored it with a 7/8 bit then went all the way through with a 5/8. Flared my exhaust out. Then took a piece of acrylic an cut my tenon plus the length of the back bore and turned it down to fit in the back bore. Here is a pic of the blank as it is drying. I am using gorilla glue and a very tight fit. More pics to follow.
