Elk Antler Duck Call
« on: May 27, 2008, 10:34:43 PM »
Here it is John.  Still having problems with the barrel sealing up.  I think I need my friend to dro pit in his pressure pot.   ???

Plain and simple call, because I didn't want to break it.  I've tried to turn a couple strikers out of this antler in the past, and exploded them.

Great looking call.  I'v made several pens out of antler but never found an antler large enough to try a call.  What did you finish your call with?

Very nice parker. What do you mean by troubles with the barrel sealing up?

This is a deer grunt I made about a year ago. I gave it to my SIL. This might not be the right place to post this if so I am sorry. Move it or delete it if you need too. Pay no attention to the date on the picture. I can't keep the date set on that darn camera. LOL

Parker,

Nice looking duck call, I like it. Don't see too many made with an antler barrel.

TBB,

Nice grunt as well. Sure is a nice gift to give. There is a thread for deer and elk calls, but I see no need to move the pic it is with another antler call, C;ose enough.

Nice turns, both of them.

Very nice parker. What do you mean by troubles with the barrel sealing up?

There's parts of the antler that are very pourous, and it takes away pressure of you blowing through the duck reed, because it escapes out the sides of the barrel.

Parker find some fairly fresh Axis deer antler and it makes some good ones. It has lots more straight pieces. And its not as pourous.

Nice barrel you made there

Yep, when it comes to duck and goose calls, I'm just a barrel maker.   :D

I can't put them together any better than ECHO can, so I go with what sounds good to the birds.

Parker have you tried to seal the barrel with CA.  I use this on all my antler pens and it changes the feel from a soft pourous feel to a hard finish.

Parker,

One of the guys I work with makes antler handled knives and his trick for deer antler is to soak it in concrete sealer to help fill in the marrow. Might work for this as well.
