Four sets for customers
« on: January 23, 2008, 11:07:20 PM »
I just finished up for sets for customer orders. They just wanted some hunting calls, and were not interested in fancy wood. But, I had to make them good looking calls.Thought you may enjoy seeing them.

This first set is THO Tulip Wood with a THO howler tone board.

This second set is Mahogany with a KO tone board in Red.

This third set is Osage Orange, again with a KO tone board.

This last set is made from Manzanita from the West Coast. It is beautiful stuff, but hard to come by. It cracks badly when drying. I had a piece 6inches in diameter and a little over 3 feet long. I cut it into pieces 4-5 inches long and then started trimming around the cracks. I got these three pieces, about 7 more and a bunch of small stuff that may make a pen or a squeaker. Oh yea, it also has a KO tone board.

The pictures seem to be a bit out of focus. Not sure why. I'll have to work on that.

Nice calls Braz, How is that manzanita to turn? As I recall, that is some pretty hard stuff. My dad is supposed to send me some to work with, it grows like weeds where he lives.

It turn very easily. But the problem, as I mentioned, is the cracking. So you have to be careful, as sometimes a blank will blow up on you from a hidden crack. Want to always wear face protection when turning it.

Those are pretty calls.  I like the way you matched the colored tone boards to the calls.  Very classy.
