Here's a call I turned yesterday from a piece of gaboon ebony. It is my first time working with ebony and I have to say that I loved doing it. It is so black it looks fake! The grain shows a little bit in the flash but I tell you it is nearly impossible to see in average lighting. I gave $28 for a 2x2-12" piece that'll yield three barrels...Hard to swallow the price but now I'm scared that I may go buy this stuff in excess.
I sanded to 2000 grit and buffed it with tripoli, white diamond, and then a good coat of carnuba wax on the buffer.
