Latex for bite reed revisited
« on: September 10, 2009, 06:45:36 PM »
Well, I happened to have the latex samples come in today, and I found a size of the latex that I REALLY like above and beyond everything else.

Its 5/16" inside diameter with a wall thickness of 3/64.

Its not a size that's readily available through McMaster-Carr though, so I just sent a message asking about how much I would need to buy to get it directly from the maker.  I'm positive I'll be able to sell some, or maybe get Al @ THO to get the rest from me and have it in his store.

If you're wanting to make this simple, and just get something run of the mill that WILL work, you can get 5/16" inside diameter with a wall thickness of 1/16".  It is not NEAR as perfect as this other size is though.

I'll keep everyone updated with what I find out further.

*I do know if I buy it from them, we should not expect to see any of it in hand until up to two months down the road.

Hi Parker!
I know this is an old post, but I'm curious how it all went and what you are using now.   :1eye:

I need to revisit using latex on my cow elk calls....

Doug,

I purchased the 5/16 by 1/16 tube in black in a 10 foot section from McMaster Carr, and I have not looked back.

I'd still LIKE to have the 3/64 wall stuff, BUT this basic sized stuff does the job, and does it VERY well.

Putting the tubing on your toneboards is really a miracle worker for tuning things up right for making a great cow elk call.
