What was the stuff you brushed on? Is that all the finish you put on your calls or just the speed round ones? Just wandering cause I have been brushing spar on mine and waiting a day for another coat and so on. It seems like I havent gotten a call complete in a week waiting for spar to dry and recoat. I have the wood turners friction finish and it looks good but some folks on the forum say it is not durable so I stopped using it.

The first coat was danish oil and the second was Mylands friction polish. Yeah, it was done like that for the speed factor. I usually use the Mylands sanding sealer over the danish oil and then the friction polish. I also normally dip the call in the oil first for good protection then buff it well inside and out after it has a chance to soak in and dry a bit. The use the Mylands (both sealer and finish) followed by carnuba wax. The oil offers the portection to the wood and the mylands gives it the gloss. A finish like that requires maintenance though. Just a bit of furniture polish once in awhile.

Dang impressive!!!!   I have NEVER even turned the barrel down to size in that time frame   I noticed a few things that I might have to try next time such as the distance of your tool rest from the wood ( mine is closer ) and how you used the gouge as I use a roughing gouge.

Thanks for sharing sir...or should I say Lathe God :punk:
