Bradford Pear bowl
« on: July 15, 2009, 10:38:36 PM »
My neighbor had a limb fall out of his Bradford Pear tree so I helped cut it up and get the mess cleaned up and used the biggest piece to practice on a bowl. I gave it to him when i got it finished up.

This is the first one I have tried and enjoyed the process, but I tasted the chips for a few days. dont know why but the chisles spit those chips right at my face.

That is real pretty...Never turned a bowl but have turned some bud vases from Bradford Pear....I love the way it finishes! It's also easy to get after a storm too!!!! What kind of finish did you use? It looks real smooth!

I sanded up to 600 grit and then used EEE and woodturners friction polish.
Thanks for the kind words.

Look great! Bradford Pear also makes some great sounding goose calls. It is not much to look at but it carries sound very good. Clent

Great work!  That wood is also an EXCELLENT turkey call striker material.

It seemed a little soft when I was turning it, But I will turn a striker out and try it now. Thanks for the tip...and all of the comments.

I have made a few strikers out of bradford pear that has dried for about 5 years and it gets pretty hard.
