ZINK Goose Guts?
« on: July 04, 2009, 01:36:04 AM »
:turned:  I didn't know ZINK goose guts were available for purchase on their website.  Anyone tried these out and liked them?

http://www.zinkcalls.com/products/CallGuts.php

It seems most call makers these days are using Wade's or Shell Creek's guts.  Just something else I thought about maybe trying.

At this point, I still like ECHO guts so far for the ease of tuning and tuning the reed for easy short reed goose calling.

It would be nicer to know the bore size they fit into?  Those Zink guts look no different than any other guts.

:up1:  Now MUTT.....are you telling me that all goose guts are created equal?  If they are, I'll just have to stick with the ECHO's since I'm getting a decent sound out of them.

Parker, I think I may have mis-spoke?  I don't think all goose guts are "created" equally.  I think the technology behind them is equal with a few minor tweeks here and there.  My opinion is that most gut sets sound pretty close to each other and the user or "tuner upper" can change the sound at will.  I rely on buying goose guts so I'm always looking for new stuff.  Some of the newer stuff is getting $pricey$.  I'd love to mold my own... just don't have the ability right now.  I've had my best luck with the guts from Call Maker Supply but we all know that is a done deal.

Just an FYI but you can get goose guts (or complete inserts) for Cans and Snows from Sean Mann.
Email Scott Christanson (sp) he can take care of you. The snow guts are the exact same ones in the award winning "White Out" call.

Hey Parker, have you got an extra set of Echo guts to sell?  I'd like to try them before I commit to a large order.

Thanks,

:up1:  I'd have to dig MUTT, but I know I've got a couple sets around here.  They're pretty basic.  I don't know if you'll like them or not.  The reed sets in a groove, so your only tuning is done with the board and wedge placement, and shaving/sanding the reed.

I think they were $4 each.

Gotcha... Let me know if find a set.  I'm prep'ing for another CG patrol and will be leaving in a week and a half.  Not sure if I'll have time to order from Echo.  I'd like to try them out before I leave; that way if I like them I can order while I'm out at sea and they'll be here when I get home.

I've never seen a set of guts where the reed sets in a groove?

buck gardner makes a pretty good set of guts. they are between  2$ and 4$ and he is real easy to deal with. he,s a lot like rick dunn is, pretty informative if you ask.
