I've been busy!!! new lanyards!
« on: June 25, 2009, 09:29:24 PM »
Greetings All,
About a week ago a friend gave me one of his handmade lanyards. I really like it and won't give it up for nothing. I have wanted to learn how to make lanyards for as long as I've been turning calls. (6 months)
Well, I've been inspired to learn. I went to Al's tutorial section on braiding lanyards and went at it.
Here is what I did today.

Yup, my hands are sore!!

Black and grey with elk antler do-dad.

Tan and brown with a cocobolo thingy.

Grey and tan with a bubinga what-cha-ma-call-it.

Black and teal with a cocobolo......do-dad I guess. :whistling:

Anybody know what the wood pieces are called?

Anyway, thanks Al for the tutorial and having an awesome site where we all can come and learn!

What say you? Comments welcome.
Thanks,
Mark

ETA...
Here is a picture of the entire lanyard(s).
The one on the right with the singe drop is for my hunting buddy. It's for his ecaller remote. He's a FoxPro kinda guy.

From what I can see, they look great. I would like to see a few pictues of the lanyards overall to see the drops and such. But from the pics you posted the braiding looks tight and even. Nice work. And it's not easy, I know, because I can't do it well at all! I finally gave up on doing them.

OK, Al, if they are really called keepers, that's what I'm gunna call 'em from now on.

"Keeper" it is. :punk:

Mark

PS - I just finished one more. It's woodland green and olive drab. Tryng to decide what kind of wood to match it with.

Thank You Guys for the kind words and support!

John, I've done a total of 9 lanyards in 3 days now. Boy are my hands sore!!
On a lanyard I did today for a friend, I turned 3 keepers before I found the one that did it for me.
I know what you mean about matching the wood to the lanyard colors.
I did two more just a bit ago that are white/drab green and white/tan.....winter camo!
I think I'm going to do a black an white one and pair it up with some of my ebony and antler calls.
THAT would sexy!!!

Thanks again Guys.
