Wood howler
« on: April 25, 2008, 11:10:21 PM »
Heres a howler that i`ve been working on for a while. I started on it and it was one of them things that when i wanted to i worked on it. Then my grandma passed a few weeks ago and the night after she passed and i couldn`t sleep so i took it out on my Dremel doing the bell. My wife delt with it to cuz my bench is in the basement under our bedroom so she heard every time i knocked the dust out of it that night and didn`t complain. Now everything in my basement has a protective layer fo red dust and now i have a new respirator cuz my old dust mask is coated. My wife took the pics tonight

 Hope ya all like it

That's very nice!  I've been working on some small wood howlers too.  I've got a couple that just need to be fine tuned in the tone board but otherwise they are finished.   I like these calls.    A little out of the ordinary and very fucntional.  A bit labor intensive though.

That one came out very nice !

That looks good Rich. Like Al said it looks like you got alot of time in it.  It looks like it should be a loud one.

Very pretty. Looks like a nice finish too. Is that a wood tone board? Did you make it?

Yes it is one of my boards. I`m not sure if that one is staying in it yet. I might try to modify a board out of the jig or just free hand one for this. I might just try some solid elk antler for a board.

I don`t want to really think about how much time i have in it. I know that the night i started hollowing it out i started before midnight and it was after 3 when i went to bed and it was rough. So it has received alot of rubbing.

Thank you everyone fore the complements they mean alot on this call

That's one cool call !
Just curious, you do a great job (looks wise anyways, I haven't
had the pleasure of using one yet,) on your wood tone boards,
how come you didn't make it one piece? Or would it be too hard to bore out
that end? Not knocking it at all, the howler is great! Just curious.
                                            Thanks, Scott
