Thinning spar?
« on: May 18, 2009, 10:56:13 PM »
I've been using rattle can spar varnish for a while and hate how long it takes to dry!  I've been mulling over the idea of dipping my calls in spar instead, but am wondering about thinning the spar first.  What can it be thinned with?  Is frequent stirring required?  Will it decrease the drying time between coats?
Thanks guys!

I cut spar 50% with mineral spirits but the drying time is still 24-48 hours to fully dry.

Mineral spirits is what I have been told too, though I have not tried it yet.

That dry time sounds pretty good to me with what I'm getting right now knight.  Do you stir or shake your concoction prior to applying it?

I shake mine.  It might not be the best thing to do, but it has worked for me, lol.  I can't take credit for the 50% idea though.  I got the idea from Jester, LOL.
