Wood guts prototype
« on: February 22, 2009, 07:34:20 PM »
My continued experiment with wood crow guts. Getting closer to what I want I think.

There is a lot more to making these than I originally thought, but its fun.
Combatting spit is a major thing, preventing stick. I have set my reed further down and opened up the toneboard gap. I also drilled small "pocket jig" like holes inside each toneboard to se if that would trap and divert spit.
Hasnt stuck yet...so far.

Any ways, these are rough and unfinished, made from scrap, as is the test barrel.

Sound better than the first set which I made the sound file from  that I posted before.

Thanks fellas!
Welp, been working on these all weekend and have some things worked out. Demensions worked out and recorded.
Heres the latest made from scrap poplar I had laying around, unfinished and in the rough.

A side note, blow into the toneboard from the side and you get a hell of a hawk call!
Neat.
Next I guess Ill make one from good wood and see what I get.

Meanwhile here you go...

A little finish and that call is ready to go. I really like the look and shape of it.

Good lookin' Lone!  That's some great work put into those reeds!

I've always heard red cedar makes the best custom crow tone boards.   :smartass:

Thanks, the stupid sound files pretty much suck, they dont sound anything like the call does in person, not saying it sounds that good ,but it definetly sounds better than the sound file.
