Tailstock upgrade?
« on: October 09, 2019, 02:13:28 AM »
Ive got a smaller cheap wen lathe, the tailstocks really not to my liking. The knob to turn the tailstock in/out when i am drilling is really rough. Anyone point me in the direction of a better tailstock assembly if one can be had. Thanks all

Most likely you will not find a replacement for your lathe. The ways on the bed might be wider or more narrow. size of the lathe 10 in. swing or 12 in whatever it may be and those parts are made for that lathe. Not saying you cannot find one but will be difficult and it probably would be costly. Then you have the problem of the tail stock giving correct alignment to the head stock.

Hope this helps.

My experience mirrors Ben's. Save your money and just buy a higher quality lathe. If you are drilling call barrels you need a pretty good lathe. I bought/sold 3 others before I found the Jet 1221. I does every thing you will need to do in making calls.
