Help with Finishing the inside of a call
(1/1)
T Clay:
For those of you that use CA finishes how do you finish the inside of a call?
Can you use Tung or teak oil on the whole call then finish the outside with CA?
If so how long does the oil need to dry before CA can be applied?
FDR:
I have used CA over Teak Oil and it worked fine. I soaked the call in the Teak oil per the directions on the can and hung to dry for 24hrs or more. Light sand (400 grit) the barrel outside, wipe of the dust and apply the CA.
If you have a problem on oily woods give the barrel a coat of sanding sealer (shellac) and after that dries you should be able to follow with any finish you wish.

I just CA finished a barrel then soaked it in a mix of tung oil and spar varnish. Figured the ca would hold best to raw wood. I also placed the call in my pressure pot to get penetration. Takes a while for the finish to ooze out of the end grain but really fills the pores. Also had the band on prior to soaking.
