Predator call with shotgun brass end help

(1/1)

Richsmith:
New to call making need some help with how to make a predator call that’s  enclosed with a shotgun shell brass.

Al_at_THO Game Calls:
Are you asking for directions on how to make one?

Al @ THO

Richsmith:
Yeah I kinda got an idea on how to do one. I ordered a JC cottontail reed kit. Was gonna turn a straight barrel to kinda resemble a shotgun shell with a 1/2 inch bore. Then on one end turn it down so the shotgun shell brass fits on and cut a grove for an o-ring to hold the brass on snuggly. Then the reed and compression fitting insert in the barrel so it sits just in from the end of the barrel. Am I on the right track?

James Strickland:
You're on the right track.  At least I do a similar approach.  But, I don't use an o-ring to keep the brass on.  I glue it on after I insert the reed.  But, try your approach.  It may be better.

You'll find that THO is a great source for learning how other folks make calls.  But, part of the fun is trying new things, making mistakes, and learning from them.

Good luck.  And be sure to post pics of how it comes out.

FDR:
What James said!  I would glue the shot shell brass on. I use epoxy for that job. Turn a couple shallow grooves, use the epoxy and wipe off any the squeezes out before it dries. I use alcohol to wipe it off. Run a 1/2 inch reamer back thru the bore after the epoxy dries.
