Slate Colors

While I've used pot calls for many, many years, I've never tried making one. While reseaching posts here and looking through online suppliers catalogs, I've noticed that there are different kinds of slate - Pennsylvania Deep Mined, Vermont Green, Red, and Purple. What are the differences between the various types? Do they sound different or is it just a matter of color? Thanks!

The Pennsylvania mined slate is grey and the softest. Red, green, purple are all harder/more dense. In my experience the red green and purple are a little higher pitched then the grey
