LA style call barrel
« on: March 02, 2018, 10:34:25 AM »
I've taken a good amount of time off call making due to a number of reason. However, I've really come to like the sound and function of a LA style call and was thinking about putting one of those together, but I've hit a road block I'm not sure how to get around.

The insert is drilled to 1/2" for the guts and a 1/2" mandrel for the shape is no problem, but what about the barrel? If I do a friction fit, it will have to be larger than 1/2", but smaller than 5/8", so I'm at a loss how these are turned.

Any help?

Your first problem is going to be if you only make the insert 5/8 you will only have 1/16  of and inch all the way around the guts, don't think that would last too long. I step drill the barrel 3/4 and then 5/8 and use an o-ring on the insert. Use a 5/8 mandrel to turn it.
